Review: Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols.

Posted by Rowena at 6:00 AM

Main Character: Meg
Love Interest: John
Series: None
Author: Website|Facebook|Twitter|Goodreads

HOW FAR WOULD YOU GO?

All Meg has ever wanted is to get away. Away from high school. Away from her backwater town. Away from her parents who seem determined to keep her imprisoned in their dead-end lives. But one crazy evening involving a dare and forbidden railroad tracks, she goes way too far...and almost doesn't make it back.

John made a choice to stay. To enforce the rules. To serve and protect. He has nothing but contempt for what he sees as childish rebellion, and he wants to teach Meg a lesson she won't soon forget. But Meg pushes him to the limit by questioning everything he learned at the police academy. And when he pushes back, demanding to know why she won't be tied down, they will drive each other to the edge — and over....

For some reason, I was scared to pick up this book again because Jennifer Echols writes the kind of heroines that drive me right up the bleeping wall. Now, I know that I read and loved this book before but after the disaster that was Zoey from Forget You and then meeting Erin from Love Story, it didn't leave a lot of hope that I'd like Meg again from this book.

But I did. Or well, I didn't her and that's a good thing, right?

Meg did a bunch of typical teenage stuff that I let slide because I chalked it up to her being young and not knowing any better but the rest of the book is so good that I overlooked a lot of Meg's stubbornness. The one thing that I enjoyed most about this book was John. Holy goodness was that John a hottie or what? I loved their almost forbidden love story. It was easy to think that John shouldn't be getting involved with Meg but as you read it, you'll find yourself not caring about the ethics behind everything. You'll find yourself softening toward the two of these guys as a couple because you'll see them grow closer and you'll understand them better and you'll just know that they...right for each other.

This is the book that started my love affair with all things Jennifer Echols. She's a talented writer who can get under my skin at the same time that she can make me melt. Her stories are always engaging and you won't be able to stop yourself from falling in love with her books, this book got a lot of praise when it first came out and for good cause. It's a wonderfully written story about two people who are fighting their own battles at the same time that they're coming together and you won't be able to stop yourself from cheering them on.

Read it and not like it, I just dare you. =P

..and that's your scoop!

Yeah, I don't know what happened; this book was so good but Forget You and Love Story irked me in so many ways. Glad to hear this one holds up.

I remember seeing this one around, but I don't think I ever paid much attention to it.

I like the cover and the idea of it. I think I'm going to try to check it out!!

Thanks for the review.

@Bookworm1858: Yeah, Forget You made me want to punch Zoe's face in and Love Story was a little better but Erin got on my nerves from time to time too.

@Alex: This was a good one. You should try it out. =)

I loved this one, too. I just pulled Forget You off the shelf and put it on my nightstand. I hope I like that one, too.
